St Michael on the Mount Without, Medieval church building in Bristol, England.
St Michael on the Mount Without is a medieval stone church in Bristol with an aisled nave, chancel, and north and south porches. The west tower dates from the mid-15th century, with bells installed in 1739.
The building was constructed during the Norman period outside the city walls and underwent major reconstruction between 1775 and 1777 under architect Thomas Paty. This reworking defined its present form.
The church once gave out Colston buns, also called Tuppenny Starvers, to local children on Easter Tuesday, a custom that later moved to a nearby school. This tradition shows how the place held a role in the community's yearly celebrations.
After extensive renovations in 2019 and 2020, the building now serves as a space for community events, performances, and art exhibitions. Visitors will find a place where history blends with current cultural activities.
The crypt holds memorial panels honoring 842 soldiers from the 6th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, surviving both World War II bombing and a 2016 fire. These panels bear witness to how the place endured through major events.
