Foulis Castle stands as a white mansion incorporating an old tower house with gun loops, located two miles southwest of Evanton.
The original structure dates to 1154, and the castle served as the continuous residence of the MacKenzies of Foulis through centuries of Scottish history.
The castle bears the Gaelic inscription 'caisteal biorach, nead na h-iolair,' translating to 'castle gaunt-peaked, the eagle's nest' from a 1491 document.
The castle maintains guided tours for visitors who wish to explore its grounds and learn about the architectural elements of Scottish fortifications.
Four cannon loops from the early 16th century were discovered behind blocked apertures during repairs in 1985, revealing its defensive capabilities.
