Kiln Theatre, Theatre and cinema venue in Kilburn, England
Description
The Kiln Theatre is a theatre and cinema venue with two separate spaces: a performance hall with around 290 seats and a cinema area with about 300 seats. Both spaces operate from the same building on Kilburn High Road, with the theatre hosting regular plays and the cinema showing films.
History
The venue opened in 1980 as the Tricycle Theatre and suffered major damage from a fire in 1987, after which it was rebuilt. A comprehensive modernisation followed in the 2010s and continues to shape its development.
Culture
The venue stages new plays that examine social issues and everyday experiences of London's communities. Its productions speak directly to the reality of the people who live and work here.
Practical
The venue is easily accessible by public transport: Brondesbury railway station is nearby, and multiple bus routes serve the area. It's worth checking the current programme before visiting, as the theatre and cinema operate separate event calendars.
Did you know?
Beyond the two main performance and cinema spaces, the building houses studios and rehearsal rooms dedicated to training and community projects. This layered approach makes the space as much about developing talent as it is about presenting shows.
