Polkemmet Country Park

Polkemmet Country Park is a 68-hectare green space near Whitburn featuring woodland trails, paths along the water, and picnic areas with seating. The grounds also include a 9-hole golf course and a 15-bay driving range for practice.

The land was privately owned by the Baillie family for over 300 years before being converted to public use. This transition marked a turning point when the former estate opened to visitors in 1981.

The Scottish Owl Centre sits within the grounds as a place where visitors can observe birds and learn about different species through interactive experiences. This facility draws people with interests in wildlife and nature education.

A visitor center housed in converted stables near the main entrance provides information and orientation for the grounds. Comfortable footwear is recommended for walking the different routes, and checking weather conditions helps plan your time since trail conditions vary by season.

A large aluminum horn-shaped sculpture stands between the fourth golf green and the M8 motorway, creating an unexpected visual landmark. This artwork provides a striking contrast to the natural surroundings of the grounds.
