Wynyard Park, Grade II* listed country house and park in Wynyard, England
Wynyard Park is a protected estate in Wynyard, England, combining a classical mansion with extensive grounds. The site covers 308 hectares and includes landscaped gardens, a Y-shaped lake, wooded areas, and agricultural land surrounding the main building, which was constructed between 1822 and 1888.
The estate belonged to the Chapel family in the 12th century and changed hands through marriage alliances over time. In 1819 Lady Frances Vane Tempest married the Marquis of Londonderry, marking the start of major redesign work.
The estate name appears in historical records linked to the Chapel family, whose descendants passed ownership through marriage over the centuries. Visitors today can walk through grounds that still display the traditional layout of an English country seat with formal areas near the house and open parkland beyond.
The main entrance is located on Wynyard Road and leads through the Golden Gates onto the grounds. The estate now functions as a country hotel with rooms and event spaces used throughout the year.
An obelisk standing 40 meters tall rises in the park and was built in 1827 to commemorate a visit by the Duke of Wellington. The former kitchen garden shifted over time from an orchard into a flower garden.
