The church, established in 1854 by the Society of Jesus, originated from their mission work that began at Mount St Mary's College in Spinkhill during the 1840s.
The church maintains strong connections with St Mary's Catholic Primary School and offers religious services in both English and Polish to serve different community groups.
The church conducts Sunday Masses at 8:30 AM, 10:00 AM, and 5:00 PM, while weekday services take place at the nearby convent of the Daughters of Divine Charity.
The original high altar, removed during renovations in 1990-1991, now functions as a pedestal supporting a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary within the church.
