Ostrovo, Rural settlement in Markušica, Croatia
Ostrovo sits within the agricultural plains of eastern Croatia, where expansive fields stretch across the landscape at 88 meters above sea level.
The settlement became part of the Markušica municipality in 1997 during the UNTAES administration, which established local governance structures in the region.
The population of 613 residents maintains both Croatian and Serbian traditions, with two official languages and the use of both Latin and Cyrillic scripts.
The L209 Vinkovci-Gaboš-Osijek railway line provides transportation connections through stations in Ostrovo and neighboring Gaboš for regional travel.
The settlement covers 16.44 square kilometers of land where twenty predominant family surnames shape the local community demographics.
