Trauttmansdorff Castle, Medieval castle in Merano, Italy
The castle complex features botanical gardens across 12 hectares of terraced terrain, with 80 garden environments displaying plants from multiple continents.
The castle dates to 1300 as Neuberg fortress, then in 1543 the Trauttmansdorff family acquired and expanded it into their residence.
The Touriseum within the castle walls presents 250 years of Alpine tourism history through exhibits documenting the evolution of regional travel.
Visitors can access the castle and gardens daily from March 29 to November 15, exploring both the historical rooms and extensive botanical collections.
The castle received Empress Elisabeth of Austria in 1870, who occupied second-floor chambers with her daughters during her winter stay.
