Column of Antoninus Pius, Victory column at Campus Martius, Rome

The Column of Antoninus Pius features a marble base with carved reliefs depicting cavalry parades and imperial ceremonies during Roman funerals.

Discovered in 1703 near Montecitorio, the column marked the location where Emperor Antoninus Pius remains were cremated in 161 CE.

The base displays the apotheosis scene where Antoninus Pius and Faustina ascend to heaven, accompanied by eagles and the goddess Roma.

The marble base of the column remains on display at the Vatican Museums, near the entrance to the Pinacoteca collection.

The original granite shaft, measuring 14.75 meters in height, was later repurposed to repair the Montecitorio Obelisk after sustaining fire damage.
