Albino–Selvino cableway, Cable car system in Val Seriana, Italy.
The Albino-Selvino cable car connects the lower Seriana Valley to the Selvino-Aviatico plateau, rising about 650 meters in elevation. The journey takes roughly 10 minutes and bridges the steep terrain between valley and mountain settlements.
The system opened in 1958 after decades of planning that considered multiple transport solutions like rack railways and funiculars. The cable car was ultimately the solution chosen to link isolated mountain communities with the valley below.
The cable car enabled tourism growth in the Bergamo valleys and opened the plateau to visitors from surrounding areas. The infrastructure change brought vacation homes and shifted how mountain communities interacted with the valley below.
Visitors can bring bicycles for a small fee, and dogs require muzzles plus separate tickets to ride. The parking area includes charging stations for electric vehicles if you arrive by car.
The system was modernized in 2009, blending traditional mountain transport with contemporary environmental initiatives. The electric vehicle charging stations at the parking area represent an unexpected focus on sustainability for a historic mountain infrastructure.
