Holy Cross

The Holy Cross sanctuary sits below the Sas dla Crusc mountain ridge and is a simple stone building with religious artwork and symbols inside. The structure follows traditional mountain construction with thick walls and small windows designed to protect from harsh alpine weather.

The sanctuary received its consecration in 1484 during a period when the region was building new religious structures. The site developed under the influence of monastic traditions that shaped spiritual life throughout the local valleys.

You can reach the sanctuary by walking on marked trails from Badia, which takes about an hour with moderate effort. The paths are easy to follow in summer, but snow and ice can make access difficult during winter months.

Services and daily life at the sanctuary take place in three languages: Ladin, German, and Italian, reflecting the cultural layers of this mountain region. Visitors often notice how these languages coexist naturally in religious practice and community gatherings.
