The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore consists of two connected structures: an ancient church from 1100 and a newer building constructed in the 1950s.
Archaeological findings from the 1950s revealed large tufa blocks beneath the church, indicating the site may have previously housed an Etruscan temple.
The ancient church features three naves supported by repurposed columns from ancient Caere monuments, displaying a blend of architectural heritage.
The church welcomes visitors daily from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with the entrance to the ancient church located at the end of the right nave.
A notable artwork inside includes the 'Madonna on Throne with Child' painting, signed by Lorenzo da Viterbo and dated to 1472.
