Oasi del Bassone-Torbiera di Albate, Nature reserve in Albate, Como, Italy.
The Oasi del Bassone-Torbiera di Albate is a nature reserve near Como comprising wetlands, grasslands, and deciduous forests spread across roughly 90 hectares. The landscape features several ponds and small lakes formed within a crescent-shaped depression surrounding a moraine hill.
The reserve was established in 1974 and is managed by conservation organizations. Its ponds and lakes formed naturally through historical peat extraction activities that shaped the landscape.
The reserve functions as an environmental education center where specialists conduct research on local flora and fauna species throughout the year.
Entry is provided through the main gate at Cascina Bengasi, which is accessible from central Como. Once inside, marked trails and observation huts allow visitors to explore the grounds on foot.
The area collects water from multiple small streams throughout Como Province. The Rio Acquanegra is the only significant outlet channel that carries water away to the Seveso River.
