Castello Baradello, Medieval castle on Baradello Hill in Camerlata, Italy
The stone fortress features a central square tower measuring 28 meters in height with walls dating from the Byzantine period.
Emperor Frederick Barbarossa rebuilt the castle in 1158 upon remnants of a sixth-century Byzantine structure, later donating it to Como citizens in 1178.
The Chapel of Saint Nicholas within the castle complex contains the tomb of Napoleone della Torre, who died in imprisonment during the 13th century.
The Tower Museum opens from April through September on weekends between 2 PM and 6 PM, displaying artifacts from archaeological excavations.
The castle sits on the site of Comum Oppidum, an Iron Age Celtic settlement that preceded the modern city of Como.
