Milano Affori railway station, Railway station in Affori district, Milan, Italy
Milano Affori is an above-ground railway station in the Affori district, in the northern part of Milan, with three platforms. It sits on an elevated section of the line and connects through an underground passage to the nearby Affori FN metro station.
The first station in Affori opened in 1879, located roughly half a kilometer south of where the current one stands. The station was completely rebuilt and relocated in 2011 as part of a broader effort to modernize Milan's suburban rail network.
The name of the station refers to Affori, a village that was once separate from Milan and is now fully absorbed into the city. Commuters passing through each day come mostly from the surrounding residential streets, and the station marks the rhythm of their mornings and evenings.
The station is served by suburban rail lines S2, S4, and S12, as well as the regional Cadorna-Asso route, making it useful for travel in several directions. Switching to metro Line 3 is done through the adjacent Affori FN station, which is reached on foot.
Although the station is above ground, there are tunnels beneath it connecting it to the metro network, making it a point where two entirely separate rail systems meet in a small area. Few travelers notice that the original 1879 station stood at a different location, so the current one is effectively a new beginning in a new spot.
