Santa Maria nel Bosco Sanctuary

The Santa Maria nel Bosco Sanctuary is a shrine located among ancient fir trees near the site where Saint Bruno lived in solitude as a hermit. The complex features a simple facade with a covered entrance and religious artwork inside, set within a forested area.

The sanctuary was rebuilt following the destructive earthquake of 1783, with its facade reconstructed using available materials from that period. A bust of Saint Bruno carved in the 1700s marks the shrine's historical development.

The shrine displays a wooden Madonna statue from the 1800s and marble coats of arms from the monastery's monastic order. These artworks reflect the deep spiritual connection between the place and monastic life.

The shrine is open daily with different hours on weekdays and weekends, offering extended access on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors should plan their visit according to the posted schedule and be prepared for a wooded setting.

A granite pool in the sanctuary's square features a statue of Saint Bruno kneeling, which commemorates his regular acts of self-denial and penance. This element connects the place to the founder's personal spiritual practice.
