Natural regional park of Serre, Regional park in Province of Catanzaro, Italy
The Natural Regional Park of Serre is a protected area spanning three provinces and features dense forests, rivers, waterfalls, and mountain ridges. Twenty-six municipalities situated within the park boundaries are linked by hiking trails that cross the terrain.
The park received formal protection status in 2004 after the region had been identified as environmentally important a decade earlier. This designation concluded a longer process of recognizing the area's need for conservation.
Local agriculture and handcrafted goods made by residents reflect the regional way of life across these communities. The practices you see in villages throughout the park are tied to how Calabrians have lived with this land for generations.
Multiple entry points from surrounding villages give you flexibility in planning your visit and choosing which direction to explore. Proper footwear and a map or local guide are recommended since trails wind through varying terrain.
From the Borbonica overlook at 1,400 meters elevation, you can see both the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas on clear days. This viewing point gives you a sense of the park's scale and position between two coastlines.
