Monte Pecoraro, Mountain peak in Mongiana, Italy

Monte Pecoraro is a mountain peak within the Regional Natural Park of Serre in southern Calabria, rising prominently above the surrounding terrain. The area is crossed by multiple hiking trails that begin at different points and offer varying views across the landscape.

The mountain once functioned as a control point for customs operations, with remains of an abandoned customs house still visible on its slopes. These structures recall the strategic importance the location held in earlier times.

The surrounding Serre mountain range takes its name from the parallel ridges that resemble the teeth of a saw. Visitors notice this distinctive profile as they walk through the landscape.

Climbing to the summit requires proper preparation since weather conditions at higher elevations can shift rapidly. Hikers should bring weather-resistant clothing and stay on well-marked trails to navigate safely.

The mountain slopes shelter rare silver fir trees registered in the national seed woods database. These trees were catalogued because of their exceptional genetic characteristics and remain of scientific interest.
