The province of Vibo Valentia sits in Calabria along the Tyrrhenian Sea, with long coastlines featuring sandy beaches and rocky inlets scattered throughout. The area was originally part of Magna Graecia when Greek settlers founded the city of Hipponion in the 8th century BCE. The Romans later conquered and renamed it to Vibo Valentia, a name that defines the region to this day.
