Castle Murat, Military museum and castle in Pizzo, Italy
The fortress includes a rectangular structure with a tapered tower and watchtower, positioned on a coastal promontory overlooking the Gulf of Saint Euphemia.
Originally constructed by Aragonese forces in the fifteenth century, the castle gained recognition as the location where Joachim Murat faced execution in 1815.
The Provincial Museum inside the castle exhibits military artifacts and contains replicas depicting the final moments of Joachim Murat's life.
The castle maintains regular operating hours from 9:00 to 19:00 daily, welcoming approximately 26,000 visitors annually through its halls and exhibitions.
The underground section preserves the cell where Joachim Murat spent his last days and wrote farewell letters to his family before execution.
