Santuario della Madonna di Pasano

The Santuario della Madonna di Pasano is a sanctuary near Sava, outfitted with a late Baroque stone altar and a Byzantine-style icon of the Virgin and Child. The building is supported by six external buttresses that were added after earthquake damage in 1743.

The current sanctuary was built between the late 1600s and 1712 under Jesuit direction, replacing an earlier chapel whose foundations remain visible behind the main altar. This shows how the site has been used for prayer across different periods.

The sanctuary draws local devotees who come to pray before the Byzantine icon of the Virgin. Over generations, it has served as a place of personal prayer for people seeking spiritual comfort and connection to Mary.

The sanctuary is located about 4 kilometers from Sava's center along Provincial Road 118 and is accessible by local road connections. It is best reached on foot or by car since the site sits somewhat away from the main town.

Archaeological remains at this site reveal that people lived here during Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine times across many centuries. These findings suggest the sanctuary was built in a location that held religious importance since ancient times.
