Iwasaki Castle

Iwasaki Castle is a wooden structure perched on a hilltop with dry moats and earthen walls, dominated by a modern five-story tower built in 1987. The site also houses a historical museum displaying artifacts from the feudal period.

The castle originated in the late Muromachi period and passed through the hands of powerful leaders including Oda Nobuhide, the Matsudaira clan, and the Niwa family. Control ended around 1600 as the structure lost its strategic importance.

The location served as a center of regional power under successive ruling families who shaped local authority and influence. Visitors can explore museum exhibits that reveal daily life and customs from the feudal period.

The grounds are open daily and can be explored on foot, though the hillside climb requires some effort. Plan sufficient time to visit both the outdoor areas and the museum exhibits thoroughly.

The location figured in a major 16th-century military conflict where fierce fighting occurred. This battle influenced the broader political landscape of the entire region.
