Goshikien, Religious park in Nisshin, Japan
Goshikien is a religious park with numerous concrete sculptures and statues of Buddhist figures scattered across its grounds. The site blends garden design with religious artworks created by sculptor Asano Shoun into a cohesive whole.
The park was founded in 1934 as part of the Daianji Temple and received official status as a religious organization called Goshikizan Daianji in 1973. This recognition transformed it into an established site for spiritual learning.
The park displays concrete sculptures of Buddhist teachers like Shinran, Honen, and Rennyo that serve as places for visitors to reflect on their teachings and historical importance.
Visitors can reach the park by taking the Meitetsu Bus or Nisshin City Kururin Bus, both stopping near the entrance at a station called Goshikien. Dressing for changing weather is advisable since the grounds are open throughout the year.
The park stands as the only religious site of this kind in Japan, combining Buddhist artworks with traditional garden elements in a rare way. This blend of concrete sculptures and classic garden design creates an uncommon visitor experience.
