Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Art museum in Naka-ku, Japan.
The Nagoya/Boston Museum stands as a three-story exhibition space near Kanayama Station, designed to display rotating collections from American holdings. The building sits within Naka-ku and features gallery halls arranged to accommodate artworks spanning multiple centuries and traditions.
A partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts Boston enabled regular exhibitions featuring loans from American collections starting in 1999. This collaboration ended in 2018 when the institution closed its doors.
The museum displayed over 2,700 pieces from different periods through 30 major exhibitions, offering Japanese visitors direct access to international art collections.
The museum was located at 1-1-1 Kanayama-cho and opened daily except Mondays from 10 AM to 7 PM. Adult admission cost 1300 yen at the entrance.
A 50-million-dollar financial agreement enabled twice-yearly exhibitions featuring artworks from Boston for five months each. This arrangement represented one of the largest international cultural cooperations between Japan and the United States.
