Anijima

Located 800 meters from Chichijima, Anijima spans 7.87 square kilometers with rocky terrain and reaches an elevation of 254 meters at Mount Mirakaeriyama point.

In 1888, two settlers attempted to inhabit the island but abandoned it due to rocky terrain and insufficient water sources, leading to military acquisition during the Taisho period.

The island belongs to the Ogasawara archipelago, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its exceptional example of ongoing evolutionary processes in oceanic island ecosystems.

Access to Anijima is exclusively by boat from Chichijima, with visitors required to obtain permits and follow strict environmental protection guidelines.

The island maintains original biodiversity due to minimal invasive species impact, housing over ten species of land snails previously thought to be extinct.
