Funabashi H. C. Andersen Park, Danish-themed park in Funabashi, Japan.
Funabashi H. C. Andersen Park is a sprawling Danish-inspired theme park in Funabashi, Japan, with separate zones for leisure activities. The grounds include athletic fields, gardens with rotating flower displays, an area for animal encounters, and a children's art museum offering creative workshops.
The park opened on October 25, 1996, as a result of a sister city agreement between Funabashi and Odense, the Danish birthplace of the writer. Since its founding, it has become one of the most visited leisure parks in the Kanto region.
The name honors the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, whose birthplace Odense is a sister city to Funabashi. Visitors walk through recreated farmhouses and windmills from 19th-century rural Denmark, experiencing how these landscapes once looked.
A dedicated bus line connects the park directly to Misaki Station, making arrival from the surrounding area easier. The grounds are accessible for wheelchair users, and most pathways are level and well paved.
More than 100 flower species bloom here year-round, including a special Ice Tulips display during winter months. Art installations throughout the park reference the fairy tales of the writer after whom the grounds are named.
