Ueno Dam

Ueno Dam is a gravity dam in Gunma Prefecture built to manage water resources and generate electricity for the region. The structure creates a reservoir nestled in a mountain valley that supplies water to the Kannagawa Hydropower Plant.

Construction of this dam began in 1997 and was completed in 2004, representing a major step forward in regional water infrastructure development. The project helped modernize hydroelectric power generation in this mountainous area.

The dam forms an integral component of the Kannagawa Hydropower Plant, demonstrating Japan's commitment to sustainable energy production through water resources.

The best time to visit is during warmer months when mountain roads are easily passable and weather remains stable. The location sits in a remote valley, so having your own transportation is helpful for getting there.
