Ueno Skybridge, Pedestrian suspension bridge in Ueno-mura, Japan
Ueno Skybridge is a pedestrian suspension bridge in Ueno-mura village, Japan, that crosses a deep valley between two forested areas. It links Kawawa Nature Park to a neighboring woodland, allowing walkers to move between the two on foot.
The bridge was built as part of infrastructure work funded by a local dam project in the Ueno-mura area. The money from that project gave the village a way to open up new paths for visitors.
The bridge sits among forested hills and is reached from both sides by short walking paths, making it a popular spot for day trips. Visitors often stop in the middle to take photographs and look down into the valley below.
A small maintenance fee is charged to cross, and visiting in the early morning or late afternoon tends to mean fewer people on the bridge. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, as the bridge surface can be slippery when wet.
The central section of the bridge has a lattice floor through which you can look straight down into the valley. This makes the crossing feel very different from walking over a solid surface.
