丸神の滝, Waterfall in Ogano, Japan
Marugami Falls descends through the Chichibu mountain range in three distinct stages over sandstone rock, reaching a total height of 76 meters. The water flows through multiple levels before reaching the base.
The waterfall first appeared in written records during the late Edo period as documented in the Shinpen Musashi Fudoki manuscript. These early accounts mark when the place began to be formally recognized in the region's history.
The waterfall holds meaning for local people who view it as part of their natural landscape shaped by mountain worship traditions. Visitors walking here can sense this connection between the place and what matters to the community.
You can reach the falls by taking the Chichibu Railway to Mitsumine Station and then catching a local shuttle to the entrance area. From there, it takes about 25 minutes on foot to reach the falls.
It is the only waterfall in Saitama Prefecture that was chosen for Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls ranking. The water originates from Mount Ryokami where large rock formations create the conditions for this distinctive cascade.
