Mount Ryōkami

Mount Ryōkami is a sacred mountain in Ogano that rises to approximately 1,700 meters and features multiple hiking routes through forested slopes. The trails include safety chains along steep sections and vary in difficulty across the mountain.

The mountain earned inclusion on the list of 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, securing its place among the nation's most significant peaks in climbing history. This recognition established it as a classic destination for hikers throughout Japan.

The mountain holds spiritual significance in Shinto tradition, serving as a place where deities are honored through ritual practices and mountain worship. Visitors encounter signs of these religious customs throughout their journey on the slopes.

The mountain is accessible via the Hinata-oya route, which starts from Seibu-Chichibu station with a bus connection to the Nakatsugawa trailhead. It is advisable to allow adequate time for the climb and check weather conditions before visiting.

The mountain's geology consists largely of chert rock, a formation that characterizes the region's landscape. Along the hiking routes, visitors can encounter the remains of the abandoned Nichitsu mine village, now an intriguing spot for exploration.
