Takizawa Dam

Takizawa Dam is a concrete gravity structure that rises 132 meters above the Nakatsu River and spans 424 meters across, creating Lake Okuchichibu Momiji in Saitama Prefecture. The facility generates power while managing water flow for the surrounding region.

Construction started in the early 2000s with water impoundment tests beginning in 2005, reaching full completion in 2008. The dam was built to address regional water needs and power generation demands.

The dam stands as a modern engineering landmark in the mountainous Chichibu region, showing how people manage water resources alongside natural landscapes. Visitors can experience how such infrastructure connects to daily life in rural areas.

Visitors reach the dam via National Route 140, which features a distinctive double-loop bridge system called the Raiden Togoki Bridge. The road passes through mountain terrain, so expect winding routes.

The dam includes internal elevators and dual staircases on both sides, letting visitors move from the downstream plaza to the dam crest. This system allows people to experience the structure at different heights.
