堺市立商業高等学校, Highschool in Japan
Sakai Municipal Commercial High School was a commercial education institution in Sakai that operated from 1921 until 2010, teaching students bookkeeping, business practices, and office skills. The campus was located in Mukaiocho and was eventually replaced by Kansai University's facilities after the school closed.
The school was founded in 1921 and served for over 80 years as a training center for commerce before closing in 2008 due to a school consolidation plan. Though the building was destroyed by fire at one point, it was rebuilt and expanded after World War II to include female students.
The school served as a center for business education in the local community and maintained strong ties with nearby shops and enterprises. Graduates worked in regional businesses, shaping the area's economic activity and becoming part of the local commercial landscape.
The site is now part of Kansai University's campus and no longer functions as an independent school, but visitors interested in its history can explore local memories and archival records. Former graduates and neighborhood residents preserve memories of the school that may be found in local museums or community collections.
The school relocated to its final location in 1923, and held its last graduation ceremony in 2010 before closing permanently due to the merger with another institution. Former students maintain an active alumni network that meets informally to preserve memories and documentation of the school's long history.
