来迎寺, Buddhist temple in Moriguchi, Japan
Raikoji Temple is a Buddhist temple located in central Moriguchi featuring traditional Japanese architecture with a main hall called Houkouden and several supporting structures. The grounds are landscaped with gardens and walking paths that connect the various buildings.
The temple was founded in 859, giving it over a thousand years of history. According to tradition, the principal Buddha statue first appeared to a monk named Gyokyo during his meditation at another temple in Nara before arriving here.
The temple serves as a place where locals gather for personal prayer and reflection in a serene setting surrounded by greenery. Visitors can observe the ongoing spiritual life of the community through its daily rituals and gathering spaces.
The temple is accessible by bus from either Dainichi Station on the Osaka Metro or Moriguchi Station, followed by a short walk to the grounds. It helps to check bus routes in advance based on where you start your visit.
A memorial stone on the grounds commemorates a supernatural encounter during evening prayers that was recorded in 1743. This aspect of the site is often overlooked by visitors despite being part of the local lore surrounding the temple.
