Description
Shin-jo-ji is a Buddhist temple in Ise that currently operates from a temporary main hall. The temple continues to serve as an active place of Buddhist worship and practice.
History
The temple was established in 1540 and relocated several times before settling at its present location in the early 1900s. A major fire in 2021 destroyed the main hall, prompting the creation of a temporary prayer space.
Culture
The temple holds the position of the 12th station among the 25 spiritual sites associated with Honen, the founder of the Pure Land Buddhist sect.

Entry to the temple requires advance reservations made by phone at 068-275-4843. The location is approximately a 500-meter walk west from JR Kintetsu Ise Station.
