Asanogawa Ōhashi Bridge, Concrete arch bridge in Kanazawa, Japan.
Asanogawa Ōhashi Bridge is a concrete arch structure spanning the Asanogawa River in Kanazawa, connecting Hashiba Town with the Higashiyama district. It serves as a main crossing point between several historic neighborhoods on either side of the water.
A wooden crossing was built here in 1594 and remained the main link between districts for centuries. The current concrete arch design dates from 1922, replacing the older structure, and once carried streetcars until mid-20th century.
The bridge links several historic districts, each with its own character: traditional wooden merchant houses on one side, a former entertainment quarter on the other, and artisan workshops throughout the area. Walking across reveals how different neighborhoods blend together while keeping their own identity.
The bridge is easy to cross on foot and offers clear views of the river and surrounding districts. Regular vehicle traffic flows across it, so visitors should stay aware while walking.
During the Kaga Yuzen Toro Nagashi festival, hand-painted silk lanterns drift down the river and pass beneath the bridge, their light reflecting off the water surface. This annual event turns the area into a display of light and color that few visitors expect.
