Castello Scammacca

Castello Scammacca is a three-story castle featuring pointed arches, detailed stone carving, and medieval-style battlement towers. The design displays consistent Gothic Revival characteristics from every viewing angle.

An architect designed this building in the late 1800s for a nobleman who wanted to house his important collection of ancient coins. From the start, the structure was created to serve as a display space for this collection.

The private chapel inside displays frescoes that reflect the religious traditions of Sicilian nobility during that period.

The building sits on a central plaza next to the former train station and is easily accessible from the town center. Check beforehand about current access conditions, as visiting may require special arrangements.

The building was never intended as a residence but was created specifically as a display space for one of Sicily's largest coin collections. This collection was later moved to a museum in another city.
