Ikoma Sanjō Amusement Park, Mountain amusement park in Ikoma, Japan
Ikoma Sanjō Amusement Park is an amusement park at 642 meters (2,106 feet) elevation on Mount Ikoma with views over the plains of Osaka and Nara. The site spreads across several levels with rides for children and families and viewing terraces along the slopes.
Osaka Electric Tramway opened the site in 1929 as one of Japan's first mountain amusement parks. The Big Flight Tower was built at that time as the country's first large playground ride at 30 meters (98 feet) high.
The name combines Mount Ikoma with the Sankō summit location and points to the position between two historic regions. Families use the wide terraces for shared outings and often combine their visit with a walk along the mountain paths.
The way to the park leads via a cable car from Ikoma Station with a journey of about 15 minutes. The site usually opens from 10 AM to 5 PM and remains closed on Thursdays.
From the summit area visitors can follow Osaka Bay to the sea on clear days and overlook both basin landscapes at the same time. The site received the Cool Japan Award in 2019 for its role as a viewpoint over the region.
