Ryūan-ji, Buddhist temple in Minoh, Japan
Located beneath the Minoh waterfall, Ryuan-ji Temple features a main hall dedicated to Benzaiten, surrounded by dense mountain forests.
Founded in 658 by En no Gyoja, who established the temple after receiving spiritual teachings from Nagarjuna Bodhisattva during meditation at Minoh Falls.
The temple serves as a primary training center for mountain ascetic practices, gathering yamabushi practitioners from across the Kinki region for fire ceremonies.
Ryuan-ji Temple opens daily from 10:00 to 16:00, with free admission and a 15-minute walk from Minoh Station on the Hankyu Minoh Line.
This temple marks the birthplace of Japanese lottery, having initiated the distribution of fortune papers called Minoh-no-Fukutomi during the Edo period.
