Mount Kogane

Mount Kogane is a peak in Ishikari, Hokkaido, rising to about 740 meters above sea level. The summit offers views across to the Shokanbetsu mountains and Shakotan Peninsula, with the landscape defined by dense forest and steep slopes.

The mountain was named after gold deposits that were once mined near the Kogane-sawa River. This connection to the region's mineral resources shows how human activity shaped the names and stories tied to the local landscape.

The mountain can be accessed from National Route 451, where parking and restroom facilities are available near the trailheads. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water, as the difficulty varies depending on which route you choose.

The mountain features two distinct hiking routes: a steeper old trail and a newer path that winds through fields of wildflowers. Along the newer route, visitors can observe rare plant species that grow at this elevation.
