梅里苑

Bairi-en is a hot spring resort in the mountains of Yamagata with accommodation, thermal baths, and forested grounds. A narrow-gauge railway connects the different areas throughout the property.

The resort was created to harness the healing properties of local thermal springs. A locomotive nearly 80 years old still runs on the narrow tracks and speaks to the site's transportation history.

The site is connected to the origins of Mamurogawa Ondo, a folk song that took shape during the early Showa period. You can sense this musical heritage while exploring the grounds.

The resort offers Japanese-style rooms and separate cottages, with access to various bathing areas and dining facilities. Day visitors can also use the thermal baths and quiet spaces without staying overnight.

The resort uses an innovative wood chip boiler system that powers the entire complex with sustainable energy. This ecological approach allows operations to run in an environmentally responsible way.
