Mie Prefecture Kumano Kodo Center, Visitor center in Owase, Japan

The Mie Prefecture Kumano Kodo Center features 6,549 local hinoki cypress trees aged between 60-80 years in its modern wooden construction design.

The center opened in February 2007 and received multiple architectural awards including the BCS Prize and Public Buildings Award for its innovative design.

The exhibition space presents information about the UNESCO World Heritage pilgrimage routes, displaying traditional white pilgrim clothing, staffs, and religious artifacts.

Located near Owase Station, visitors can reach the center by taking a 10-minute bus ride to the Kumano Kodo Center stop, with operating hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The center contains cylinders comparing rainfall levels between regions, highlighting Owase's status as one of the rainiest locations in Japan.
