赤沢八幡野連絡橋, Abandoned loop bridge in Yahatano, Japan
The Akazawa Yahatano Bridge is a steel girder structure built in mountainous terrain that forms a complete loop to manage steep elevation changes. The bridge was designed with this circular shape to connect locations separated by significant height differences.
The structure was built in 1976 as an access road for a nearby resort development project. After the project was abandoned, the bridge fell into disuse and experienced a partial collapse in 1993.
The structure attracts numerous urban explorers and photographers who document its current state as a testament to Japan's abandoned infrastructure projects.
The bridge location is accessible via Route 135 in the Higashi-Izu area, which provides the main approach to the site. The Izu-Kyuko Railway Line and Ukiyama Hot Springs are situated nearby for additional reference points.
The original nameplate of the bridge was discovered in 2024, revealing its official designation as Watanabe Bridge. This identifying marker had remained unknown to the public for decades.
