Art Museum & Library, Ota, Art museum and municipal library in Ota, Japan
Art Museum & Library Ota is a building with exhibition spaces and reading areas across three floors connected by spiral ramps and concrete structural elements. The layout allows visitors to move between art displays and library sections in a flowing manner.
The building opened in January 2017 to revitalize the declining downtown area near Ota Station. It was designed to bring new activity to the district and encourage people to visit the area.
The facility merges art displays with a library to serve the local community and foster interest in creative works. It functions as a gathering place where visitors can experience both artworks and collections of books.
The building sits about one minute from Ota Station on the Tobu Isesaki Line. Access to both art galleries and the library flows through the same entrance, with separate fees for exhibition visits.
The building features concrete boxes filled with soil on its roof that support gardens and create a hill-like form. This merging of built structure and planted landscape gives the facility a distinctive relationship with its surroundings.
