軽井沢安東美術館

The Karuizawa Ando Art Museum displays approximately 180 works by the artist Tsuguharu Foujita in a contemporary gallery space. The collection includes paintings of young girls, cats, and religious subjects, along with furniture and tableware designed by the artist.

Foujita arrived in France in 1913 and developed his distinctive style using milky-white tones in his paintings. The museum itself opened in 2022 to focus on this influential French-Japanese artist's works.

The museum displays how Foujita's works reflect different stages of his life, from his years in Paris to his travels across Latin America. The exhibition tells through paintings how his style and subjects evolved over time.

The museum sits about eight minutes on foot from JR Karuizawa Station in an easily accessible location. Opening hours run from morning through late afternoon, and there is a café inside the building where you can spend time.

Inside the museum is a café called Salon de Lumière furnished with Foujita's furniture and tableware pieces. Visitors can enjoy specialty drinks while relaxing surrounded by the artist's design objects.
