Madonna dei Rimedi, Baroque church near Piazza Indipendenza, Palermo, Italy
Madonna dei Rimedi is a baroque church standing on Piazza Indipendenza with a facade decorated by statues of Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint Joseph holding the Christ Child. The interior features ornamental details and religious artworks that reflect the baroque architectural style.
This church traces its origins to the Norman conquest of Palermo, when Roger I of Sicily established a religious site at this location. The building later lost its religious function during the 19th century but was eventually restored to its original purpose.
The church displays numerous artworks, including the Transverberation of Santa Teresa by Rosalia Novelli and multiple altarpieces created by Pietro Novelli.
This church is located in a central part of the city and is easily reachable by public transport. Visitors should plan their visit considering that opening times may vary based on religious services and events.
The structure underwent transformation into military barracks and stables in 1866 before returning to religious use through Cardinal Ernesto Ruffini's efforts in 1950.
