Kurokuma Falls

Kurokuma Falls is a waterfall in northern Japan that drops approximately 85 meters with a width near 15 meters. The water flows over a tributary of the Akaishi River in Aomori Prefecture.

Japan's Ministry of the Environment included this waterfall in their official list of the country's top 100 waterfalls in 1990. This official recognition established it as a significant natural destination.

The cascading water creates a natural pattern that resembles a figure in prayer, giving the site spiritual significance for visitors who pass through. People often pause to observe this distinctive formation against the stone.

The site is accessible year-round without entrance fees, making it easy to plan a visit whenever you pass through the area. Most people spend between one and two hours exploring the location.

The name Kurokuma means Black Bear, referring to the shape the falling water creates against the rock wall. This distinctive pattern resembles a standing bear, which is how the place got its name.
