Ogaki Bridge, Concrete bridge in Ogaki City, Japan
Ogaki Bridge is a concrete structure that spans 460 meters across the Ibi River with one traffic lane in each direction and a pedestrian walkway on the downstream side. The design allows vehicles and pedestrians to use the crossing simultaneously without mixing flows.
The bridge opened in March 1963 as a toll crossing for travelers. It became free to use in November 1980 when toll collection stopped.
The bridge serves as a gathering place where locals meet for festivals and community events that reflect the traditions of Gifu Prefecture.
The area around the bridge has good public transportation access, with former toll booth locations now functioning as convenient bus stops. Visitors can easily reach the bridge and explore the nearby riverbank.
In January 1991 the bridge underwent complete closure due to structural problems, though pedestrians and cyclists were still allowed limited access during repairs. This event highlighted how critical the structure is to the community.
