시라히게 신사, Shinto shrine in Japan
Shirahige Jinja is a Shinto shrine in the Sunomata district of Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture, located north of Sunomata Castle within the grounds of the Ichiyajo Castle Ruins Park. Its precinct includes a subsidiary Toyokuni Shrine, founded in 1992 when the replica keep of Sunomata Castle (the Ogaki City Sunomata Historical Museum) was built, and enshrining Toyotomi Hideyoshi alone, separated from Osaka's Toyokuni Shrine.
The founding date is unknown; Edo-period writings of the Kanbun and Tenna eras already record it as Shirahige Daimyōjin. It was renamed Shirahige-sha in 1874, became a village shrine in 1879, and took its present name in 1880. In 1938 it was moved to its current site because of the Sai River improvement works.
Within the shrine grounds stands Toyokuni Shrine, founded in 1992 when the replica keep of Sunomata Castle (now the Ogaki City Sunomata History Museum) was built; its deity was divided from Toyokuni Shrine in Osaka Castle Park. Only Toyotomi Hideyoshi is enshrined here, whereas the Osaka shrine honours Hideyoshi, Hidetsugu and Hidenaga.
The shrine stands north of Sunomata Castle, inside the grounds of the Ichiyajoato Park in Sunomata, Ogaki. Buses on the Meihen Kintetsu Gifu-Ogaki line and the Gifu Bus Obusa-Sunomata line stop at Sunomata, about 15 minutes on foot from there; from Gifu Station take the W65 Sunomata bus.
Within the shrine grounds stands Toyokuni Shrine, established in 1992 when the replica keep of Sunomata Castle (now the Ogaki City Sunomata History Museum) was built; its deity Toyotomi Hideyoshi was divided from Toyokuni Shrine in Osaka Castle Park, though only Hideyoshi is enshrined here, not Hidetsugu or Hidenaga.
