揖斐川橋梁

The Ibigawa Railway Bridge is a steel structure crossing the Ibi River between Ogaki and Anpachi in Gifu Prefecture. It carries daily train traffic as part of a vital transportation corridor connecting central Japan to the western regions.

The first bridge opened in 1887 but was replaced in 1913 due to engineering advances. The current structure has been in service since 1961 and was recognized as an Important Cultural Property in 2008.

The bridge received designation as an Important Cultural Property in 2008, representing the evolution of Japanese railway engineering through three generations.

Trains pass through regularly as part of scheduled service between Aichi Prefecture and the Kinki region. You can view the bridge from nearby vantage points or while traveling by train through the area.

The bridge employs a Warren truss design with steel lattice girders, showcasing how engineers of that era built efficient structures. The brick cylinder foundations extend deep underground to support the heavy weight of passing trains.
