Ōyu Geyser, Natural geyser in Atami, Japan
The Ōyu Geyser releases hot water and steam through an artificial mechanism every 5 minutes, creating a vertical water column in central Atami.
During the Edo period, the geyser attracted Tokugawa Ieyasu who visited for therapeutic purposes in 1602 and 1604, establishing its reputation.
The geyser represents one of the Seven Hot Springs of Atami and contains a memorial stone for Toby, the British diplomat Alcock's dog from 1860.
Located 20 minutes by foot from JR Atami Station, the geyser operates daily between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM with regular eruption cycles.
The site features Japan's first public telephone booth reconstruction and a monument marking the birthplace of long-distance telephone services.
